The ceremony to deliver the Hovione Award to the Best Student of the Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, concluded in the academic year of 2022/23, Duarte Palancha, took place on May 16, 2024, at the Abreu Faro Amphitheatre, in Técnico Interdisciplinary Building, starting at 5:00 pm.

The Hovione Award, established by the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEM), in collaboration with the Coordination of the Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and with the sponsorship of Hovione, aims to encourage and value excellence in the academic performance of students of the Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. This year, for the first time since it was established, the Hovione Award honoured the Best Student of the Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, concluded in the academic year of 2022/23, Duarte Seixas Carlos Palancha.

The ceremony featured a series of brief speeches praising the awarded student, and with words of encouragement for his future career, namely, by Professor Pedro Amaral, Vice-President of IST, by Professor Matilde Marques, Vice-President of the Scientific Council, by Professor Teresa Peña, President of the Pedagogical Council, by Eng. Filipe Gaspar, Vice-President for R&D at Hovione, by Professor Paulo Fernandes, in representation of the Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, and by Professor Pedro Coelho, President of the Engineering Department Mechanics.

At last, the awarded student, Duarte Palancha, honoured by the distinction of the Hovione Award, gave a moving speech, in which he described his academic journey as a student of the Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering at IST, thanking his family, colleagues and professors who he made a point of highlighting.
