UpK and RACE scholarships awarded to two Mechanical Engineering students at Técnico
The UpK and RACE scholarships are aimed at undergraduate and master's students in Electrical and Computer Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.

On 22 January, two Mechanical Engineering students received the UpK and Race scholarships, respectively, for the 2024/2025 academic year. The ceremony took place in the Civil Museum, at Técnico – Alameda campus.
During the ceremony, the winners of this first edition, Miguel Meninas (master’s student in Mechanical Engineering) and Rodrigo Alves (undergraduate student in Mechanical Engineering), shared the impact of the scholarship on their personal and academic lives. The scholarship “allows us to focus on academic life and students’ organisations”, shared Miguel Meninas. ‘Ever since I was little, I’ve heard about Técnico as Portugal’s top engineering school and I’ve always dreamt of studying here’, said Rodrigo Alves, before thanking the patrons and the school for helping him “achieve his goal”.
The scholarship award ceremony was chaired by the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Francisco Melo, who said it was a ‘joy when patrons give this opportunity’ to Técnico students, as they are ‘the most valuable asset’ of the School.
Also present at the event were Maria Fátima Vaz, Vice-President of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Aurélio Araújo, coordinator of the Master’s programme in Mechanical Engineering.
The UpK and RACE Scholarship programmes aim to support the training of Mechanical Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering students of recognised academic merit and financial need, through annual scholarships of 3000 euros. These scholarship programmes are part of a series of scholarships offered at Instituto Superior Técnico.
