• Abstract:
This Seminar aims to continue previous Seminars held in 2024 and 2025, with the purpose of introducing EASA - European Union Aviation Safety Agency, this time addressing another crucial topic in aviation.
In addition to presenting an overview of EASA, highlighting its expertise in various areas, with a special emphasis on Airworthiness, the main focus will be to explain and clarify specific issues related to aviation safety management. Specifically, this Seminar aims to explore the topic of Safety Management Systems (SMS) in Aviation, seeking to show practical applications and real-world cases.
• Short Biographic Note:
Luís Pires is a Senior Aviation Policy Officer at EASA and Airworthiness Expert, with more than 30 years of experience in aviation. Born in Luanda and raised in Lisbon, he holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering From Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), specializing in Applied Thermodynamics, and also holds two postgraduate degrees in the areas of Energy (IST) and Airworthiness (Cranfield University).
He began his career at the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC nowadays, and at the time DGAC - General Directorate of Civil Aviation). Since November 1, 2005, he works at EASA, initially joining the Standardization Directorate as Team Leader. Throughout his career in aviation, he participated in several international working groups dedicated to aviation safety regulation. Specifically, he was deeply involved in the implementation of bilateral Aviation Safety agreements between EU and USA, EU and Canada, and EU and Brazil. He also holds a Private Pilot Licence (PPL). Music is his main hobby and passion, currently playing guitar in EASA band.
