Técnico TLMoto presents the fastest electric motorcycle built by students in Portugal
The TLM04e rollout brought together a large audience at Técnico – Alameda campus.
It’s the fastest motorcycle model ever built by Técnico students. It can reach 200 kilometres per hour and promises to revolutionise electric motorcycle competition – TLM04e is the fourth electric prototype built by TLMoto, a students’ organisation at Instituto Superior Técnico that develops this type of vehicle. The official launch took place on 18 October, in the Great Hall of Técnico – Alameda campus.
Vasco Lopes, the team’s leader, said that the event marks the start of a new season and ‘an important moment [for TLMoto], as it results from months of dedication and innovation’. The student thanked the team – and also his family and friends – and Técnico, ‘which has provided the means for our work but, above all, the students’ organisations that act as true friends, or the professors and staff who help us every day’.
‘The students’ organisations are the most important part of academic life’, defended Carlos Santos Silva, vice-president of the Pedagogical Council at Técnico. ‘That’s where you can combine your personal interests and hobbies with the skills you are developing as Técnico students’.
The audience had the opportunity to learn about the technical characteristics of the motorcycle, the lightest of all the prototypes developed so far, and the innovative structural concepts implemented. The vehicle’s performance was demonstrated minutes later at Alameda campus car park.
Founded ten years ago, TLMoto develops high-performance electric motorcycles, focusing on sustainable mobility solutions. The team, a pioneer in Portugal, built the first all-Portuguese electric motorcycle and has represented the country in international competitions such as MotoStudent in Aragon, Spain.
The TLM04e is designed to optimise dynamic and energy performance, and the team plans to compete at the international Aragon circuit in 2025 with this prototype. In past competitions, it has already achieved great prominence, reinforcing its position as a leader in the development of electric motorcycles in the country, such as 7th place in the design phase (MS1) in 2021.
