Técnico Solar Boat returns to the podium in Monaco competition
The Técnico Solar Boat (TSB) team ranked 2nd in the solar class with the São Rafael 03.
Two years later, Técnico Solar Boat (TSB) returned to the podium at Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, winning 2nd place in the Solar category, among 48 participants from 25 countries. Electric boats powered by photovoltaic panels compete in this class. The São Rafael 03 has panels manufactured by its own team made up of 60 Técnico students.
The Portuguese team also won the Eco-Conception Prize for the design of the São Miguel 02 – powered by hydrogen and presented on 12 June 2024 – and the sustainable choices made in its construction. This prototype succeeded the São Miguel 01, the first hydrogen-powered vessel developed in Portugal.
According to Miguel Gil, the Team Leader of TSB, “this is just another step on what is an exciting journey for Técnico Solar Boat, as we set increasingly ambitious goals for a sustainable future”, he explains in a statement.
TSB was founded in 2015 and its most important competition is the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge. The classification now obtained equals that of 2019 with the predecessor St Raphael 03, followed by 3rd place in 2021.
The Monaco Energy Boat Challenge is a competition for electric vessels powered by renewable energy, organised by the Yacht Club de Monaco.
